5 Hot Tips for finding work during COVID
In our many years of recruitment experience, finding the right person for the right job, we have seen many trends come and go. COVID is not a trend but now rather a new way of living and working. Some changes will have lasting effects and some behaviours will continue for a very long time.
Where possible, many are choosing a more flexible workplace, one that caters for family and personal needs; one that adapts and bends. Most people are a bit fed up with the daily grind and routine and wondering what life is really all about! Let’s explore some ideas of how to make things work for you in this COVID reality
The 5 HOT tips
1.Be Brave
Be kind to yourself. Self care and assess where and what income you need to live comfortably . You may find this exercise useful, perhaps concluding any number of thoughts from accepting less income to downsizing. This discussion should involve family as they may also add value to your current situation. The main question here is “what is really important to you and your family”?Most of all be brave!
2. Keep a grip on reality
Maintain a grip on the job market – read and research trends and patterns. Where are the majority of jobs? What type of jobs are in demand? Analyse your skills, knowledge and experience and see if any are transferable to another career? Assess whether you need to do further study or gain a certificate. Be ready to jump on to another train if the one your on is going nowhere.
3. Get innovative
Looking for work? a) Seek all the recruitment agencies and register with them. b) Visit the industrial/commercial areas and check out businesses that may have a link with your resume and inquire about vacancies. This also provides valuable local knowledge and often employers may refer you to a useful lead. Get creative and think of other ways to seek and apply for work besides the trusted internet.
4. Be Prepared
Ensure you have all your application documents ready or at least updated. Each job application needs to be adapted to the requirements of the job. Make sure you have a match of at least 80% before you formally apply. If you have any problems with updating or preparing a job application, there are resume writers who can help. In conclusion, have you prepared the best possible resume?
5. Hold Fast
Be patient and remain steady. There is no need to panic as the rest of the world is in the same boat. Instead, look for opportunities in areas where there is a staff shortages, for example, many factories and farms are screaming for workers. Consider how you could adapt your lifestyle to be more flexible and still be able to care for yourself and family
In conclusion, our world has changed forever. There is no guarantee that another pandemic won’t hit us again. Back yourself, be prepared for the unexpected and the expected.
