Great temporary contract workers need to be so adaptive and flexible – one could think that they have to possess super powers to perform the work!
Often, due to the nature of temping, the jobs are varied and at times, there is very little time for the host organisation to train or induct the temp. We know from experience that a great temp worker is someone who can adapt quickly, listens well and follows basic and threadbare instructions as well as uses amazing initiative! Having “contract temp work” on a resume always gets our attention!
The new temp is expected to “hit the ground running”, with little instruction or direction. It takes a certain type of personality and someone with a broad skill’s base to cope and perform under this duress! They will need to have some or a heck of lot of the following:
- sense of humour
- fortified confidence and self-esteem
- great listening and observation skills
- patience and understanding
- clear perception of the overall job and company
- advanced interpersonal skills
- ability to “bit the tongue” and think before reacting!
These are just some of the traits for a career as a temp…. naturally, competency at the tasks is a must!
